13 Turns - Taksuril
“Taksuril!”
He heard her shout warp into giggles, and turned just in time to see the wave catch her. Taselin rolled on the sand, trying to escape the water and the next oncoming wave. He ran to help her, but his long, gangly legs were still new to him, and he ended up right next to her in the shallow water.
“By the shell of the first egg Taselin, why must you-” He spat water and sand out of his mouth, “always insist on getting wet?”
He heard her clicking her tongue in disapproval as she crawled towards dry sand, and she chidingly remarked, “You have such a fisherman’s mouth, what would Ma say?” She then plopped down, sunshine bathing her and assisting in the long process of drying. “I don’t mean for it to happen, you know,” She then dramatically replied, rolling her eyes, “it just so happens that the largest green agets are near the shore side.”
She followed the remark by triumphantly holding up the largest green aget he had ever seen. His eyes widened, as he plopped down beside her, and reached for it. She willingly gave it to him, and he studied it intently. The with a lopsided smile, he returned it to her.
“Will you tell me the story again?” He asked quietly, settling into the warm sand, and trying to hide how much he had missed this. The older he got, the longer the sea voyages took him away from her. She cuddled up close to him, and took a deep breath before painting the story in his mind.
“A long time ago, the first green dragon hatched, and it’s name was Agetayath. It loved to play in the sand and breath fire at the ocean. It would prance, and swim, and fly, and dive. Oh how the ocean loved it’s very own green dragon. They spent a lot of time together. The ocean would bring fish to the dragon, and at night Agetayath would croon and bugle in melody with the waves. They loved each other deeply for many years. But just as all good things end, Agetayath grew old and ill. She took her last flight, and instead of going between, fell into the ocean’s embrace to forever rest with her greatest love. In memory of this great love, the Ocean crashes and gathers agents together and forms them into green agets, bright and beautiful, just like Agetayath.”
Taksuril smiled at the story he knew she had made up. He loved that story, and remembered the very first time they had gone aget hunting and she had told him the elaborate story. He knew her deep desire to be a dragon rider, to feel the rush of flying and the thrill of a bondmates joy. He loved how whimsical she became when she talked about dragons. Suddenly she sat up and ruffled his hair, sand spewing forth from his dark hair.
“Come on, we are going to be late for our midday meal, and Pap might just eat all our meat pies.”
Taksuril jumped up, distressed at the very idea. I mean, a boy had to eat, and he had been eating as much has he been growing. He watched her take off, and with an excited whoop, he was off after her, meat pies circling in his head.
