The Making of a Queen; Hatching of the Spring Storms’ Clutch
When the twin golden orbs began to shutter and shake, her whole attention was on them. She’d barely paid attention to most of the eggs as they had hatched and claimed their riders; other than the Bronzes, she hoped, none of the others would matter to her. But now, with the young Golds making their presence known, nothing else mattered. She held her breath, waiting like so many girls around her. ‘I’m here.’ She thought, putting her whole being into them. ‘Come to me. I’m here.’ She needed one, wanted one… she didn’t want a Green or a Blue. She knew what she wanted; and her only hope was that the Gold, one of them, wanted her back.
The first one broke free, delicate and graceful. Smaller. Melana frowned softly. Was she too small? Possibly. Golds were supposed to be large, imposing, powerful – almost as the thoughts slipped over her mind, the Bold Egg shattered in a rain of shards. The larger, brighter one took her breath away. As the larger of the two Gold hissed and raged at the Brown, driving him off, she laughed softly. Now that was a Gold. It almost looked like she would chase the Brown down – but the smaller Gold seemed to call her away, drawing her toward the gathered, now slightly terrified female candidates.
The brighter, larger Gold moved forward; passing her lighter sister. She almost looked like she was hunting; her head darting back and forth, eyes spinning violently. A few girls to Melana’s side took steps back, but she refused. No, she needed this. Wanted this… her Gold. One of these could be hers. Should be hers…the bigger one darted forward, knocking Srunae away from her and Melana jumped a little, taking a single step back simply out of reflex.
My sister is welcome to all of these weak females, but you are mine, Melana. I am your Sularenth. The voice stunned her, for the first time in a long time, almost speechless. ‘Oh am I now?’ Even with the jaunty words, Melana found herself reaching a hand up, fingers finding Sularenth’s still damp jaw. The Gold hissed softly. Yes. Mine. None shall take you away from me. I will not allow it.
Something about the total conviction in the little Gold’s claim brought a grin to her lips, the rainbow of Impression in the Gold’s eyes locking them together, giving Melana the partner she had so desperately desired. ‘I’ve been waiting for you.’ Sularenth turned her head, pushing at Melana’s hand. I am here now, that is what matters. Now, come, feed me. ‘Say please.’ Sularenth rumbled softly, ignoring the request as Melana laughed and turned to walk off the sands with her.
