PB : Leo Mangieri
NAME: G'vrn [Gaverin]
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 21
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
DRAGON: Blue Zakarith [x]
PETS: none
APPEARANCE: G'vrn is a tall young man, built mostly of long legs. While not as physically impressive as some lads his size he still maintains a level of fitness that has allowed him to be fit enough to run the length of the weyr in good time to run errands or whatever else he needs to do. He has black hair and pale blue eyes, and his skin is lightly tanned.
PERSONALITY FAULTS: G'vrn is stubborn, sometimes to his detriment. He also has the tendency to hold things in until it builds up to the point that it just explodes out of him. He feels as though he constantly has to prove himself to the people around him, and will run himself into the ground to prove it if he has to. He tends to become absorbed in tasks until they are complete, leading him to forget other tasks given to him until its far too late to get them done. He's also strongly opinionated, and will butt heads with anyone if he disagrees with them, even if they are Weyr leadership.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: Loyal and deeply devoted to those closest to him, G'vrn is happy to spend his time with family and friends. He's outgoing and expressive, the kind of guy to listen when someone needs an ear rather than an opinion. He's most happy to be helping those around him. He's confident and calm, usually the kind to always think out his actions before he goes through with them. He also has a strong sense of responsibility and will never push off his duties or chores on another person, especially when he feels he can get them done himself in a timely manner.
FAMILY:
Aileece [sister, 14]
A'vrn [father, brownrider]
Gaelei [mother, Dragonhealer]
HISTORY:
Gaverin was the first-born child of Brownrider A'vrn and Gaelei, a Journeywoman Dragonhealer for Monaco Bay Weyr. He was raised with the concept that he'd become a dragonrider because his father was a dragonrider, so of course he'd be Searched. This being so, young Gaverin did everything he could to make sure he'd be the best choice when and if the searchriders ever chose him. He tried to do his best at everything he did, minded his manners, and even helped out with his baby sister when she came along. His father never dissuaded him from the thought that he'd definitely be searched, that he'd Impress someday if he was just patient enough. And when he was 13, his time finally came. He was Searched. But that was only the beginning. Years went by with hatchings and impressions, and he would Stand at each one. But he never found his dragon. As he got older he realized that it wasn't guaranteed that all the young men and women that were Searched would be Impressed. He told himself he'd stay until he was too old, but with each Hatching his hopes faded more and more.
And then his little sister was Searched, and he was determined he would Impress so that he could protect her when she Impressed too. Then they would protect the Weyr together as proper dragonriders just like their father. Unfortunately, at 20, his father told him that he would be not be allowed to Stand after this Hatching. It was either Impress, or leave the sands forever. Gaverin agreed, by now accepting that he wasn't likely to see his dream realized, that it was more likely his sister, younger and with more time to try, would Impress without him. At his last Hatching all the eggs but one hatched, and all the other candidates stood waiting on that last one. Of the gathered forty odd that had come to stand, only twelve had Impressed. And that final, thirteenth egg, shook and shuddered and finally cracked to spill out its little dragonet. He was stood in the back, behind the younger ones, behind everyone else so that they'd have that chance, but the little one called out and it broke his heart. And then, despite his age, the little dragonet chose him. And Gaverin became G'vrn, a dragonrider at last. Well, a weyrling, but it made no difference.
Six months after his Impression, while out collecting shells with her friends, Aileece would lose her hearing. G'vrn stayed with his sister as much as he could while she recovered, but his dragon was his primary responsibility so he had to leave her in the capable care of the Weyr Healer. He would discover, some weeks later, that the lightning strike that had nearly hit her, had permanently ruined her ability to hear. His sister couldn't stand. At this point their parents started looking for other things for their daughter to do, trying to help her find a place for herself where her hearing or lack thereof didn't matter.
The problem came from Weyrleader I'der. The man that ran the Weyr did not want a former candidate anywhere near the others, and told her family that she was to have no further contact with the dragons or much of anything else. Many things that could use an able bodied worker were denied to her because without her hearing she was a risk to those around her, and someone would always have to keep an eye on her. Plus there was every chance that her situation could discourage other Searched candidates from accepting, as though it happened all the time for one of them to have hearing loss so total as she did. G'vrn did not take this well, and although he usually thought things through before he did them he set himself on a plan. As soon as his dragon could fly safely with him, he was taking his sister and bringing her to another Weyr, where maybe she'd be better taken care of and respected. Nobody at Monaco Bay seemed to want to interact with her after she lost her hearing, calling her useless and worthless and several other names he was glad she couldn't hear. He wanted her to be happy, even if that meant leaving their home behind.
So one cloudy morning he fetched his sister, telling anyone that asked that they were going for a short flight over the weyr to exercise Zakarith. Nobody questioned this, as he periodically helped his sister and took her out flying with he and his dragon. Most saw him as taking on the 'burden' of his sibling so that his parents no longer had to worry about her, called him noble and admirable. That was the day he chose to leave. It was just the three of them, four if he chose to count his sister's firelizard. But this trip didn't go as planned. Only a mile away from the Weyr a storm started to brew, and within minutes had evolved into a full violent thunderstorm. Zakarith was blown and buffeted by the wind, and it was only sheer determination and desperation that kept the two humans on his back through that harrowing trip. It was the blue that saw land first, and the dragon that landed them into a small cave on a cliffside, using his body to block the worst of the storm.
For two days the group remained stuck as the storm raged overhead, eventually petering out and allowing them to take stock. They were far from home, on an unknown island, with limited supplies. And Zakarith was too exhausted to fly, and refused to attempt betweening them. In short, they were stuck.
IN THE EVENT OF YOUR SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED DISAPPEARANCE FROM THE SITE AT ANY POINT IN TIME, WHAT DO YOU WISH TO BECOME OF THIS CHARACTER AND ANY CREATURES THEY MAY IMPRESS?
